University
of Durham Lodge presents cheque for £5000
to RMBI
(Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution)
Members of the lodge have raised £5000 and it was
decided to donate the money to the RMBI as part of the
RMBI London Appeal in 2006. The cheque was presented in
the Lodge by the Worshipful master W.Bro Laurence Carr
to the RMBI Chairman W.Bro Chris Caine. PGStB
The Aim of the RMBI - ‘’The Institution has
a daunting challenge - to provide a comprehensive range
of services to meet the needs of an increasingly large
number of older Freemasons and their dependants by providing
Sheltered Accommodation, Residential and Nursing Care in
RMBI Homes for those finding difficulty managing on their
own. Regular practical help and advice, through our Care
Advice Team, home improvement loans and holidays are other
important ingredients in the help the Institution provides.
We are committed to ensuring the individuals' right to
dignity, respect, choice and control over their own lives.
We strive to offer the highest standards of residential
and nursing care. Professional staff balance the need for
business-like efficiency with a commitment to the spirit,
and to the letter, of the aims of Freemasonry as a caring
organisation.’’

The UDL was set up over 100 years ago by graduates from
the University of Durham who were Masons, who wanted to
continue their Masonry after moving down to London to work.
Now over 100 years later the purpose of the lodge still
holds strong as a group of University of Durham Graduates
have found the University of Durham Lodge 3030 on the web,
made contact and have visited the lodge at the June meeting.
They were warmly welcomed and enjoyed themselves at the
festive board. We hope they will visit again with a view
to joining the lodge to continue their Masonic career.
The University of Durham Lodge welcomes any Graduate Masons
who have moved to, or work in London, who would like to
join a London Lodge.
